Why are only humans special? Charlie, a boy living in rural Missouri, United States, is a “Humanzee”—a half-human, half-chimpanzee creature who has intelligence beyond humans and physical abilities beyond chimpanzees. At the age of 15, Charlie started his new life at school on the advice of his human foster parents. There, he meets Lucy, a genius girl who has difficulty communicating with other people. To protect his family and Lucy, Charlie chooses to face ALA.
